The Investment Committee

Greensphere’s investment teams are supported by an experienced Investment Committee comprising leading names from the realms of public and private equity investing.  With similarly strong ESG credentials and exceptional business networks, the Investment Committee provides additional strategic oversight whilst enhancing Greensphere’s ability to access attractive investment opportunities.

Ian Nolan

Investment Committee Chairman

Mr Nolan led the team which was recruited by the UK Government in 2011 to establish the UK Green Investment Bank, and was its Chief Investment Officer until 2014.

Previously, Mr Nolan held the position of Chief Investment Officer at 3i PLC. Ian has three decades of experience in finance, private equity and investment management. Mr Nolan qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen and graduated with a BA in Economics from Cambridge University.

Paul Lester CBE

Investment Committee Member

Mr Lester has over 30 years’ experience at the senior management or director level of businesses. Mr Lester currently serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Signia Wealth Limited and Knight Square. Mr Lester is also an Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Essentra PLC, a FTSE 250 company, and Forterra PLC, a FTSE 350 company.

Mr Lester previously served as Non-Executive Chairman of John Laing Infrastructure Fund Limited, a FTSE 250 company where he led the initial public offering of the fund in 2010; and was a Non-Executive Director of Invensys, a FTSE 100 company, and Chief Executive of VT Group Plc, amongst a variety of other directorships.

Mr Lester holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and a diploma in Management Studies from Nottingham Trent University. Mr Lester is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a member of Her Majesty’s Major Projects Review Group. Mr Lester was awarded a CBE in 2007.

Jon Moulton

Investment Committee Member

Mr Moulton is currently serving as Chairman of the Better Capital Funds, Finncap, AMR Centre Ltd and of The International Stock Exchange Group. Mr Moulton was formerly Managing Partner and Founder of Schroder Ventures where he served from 1985 to 1994.

Mr Moulton was also the Managing Partner of Alchemy Partners, which he founded in 1997. Mr Moulton has also previously worked with Citicorp Venture Capital, Permira and was a Director at Apax Partners. He was an inaugural member of the British Venture Capital Hall of Fame and serves on the Board of the Corporate Finance Faculty of The Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has sat on the Board of several public companies and is currently a director of a number of private companies and charities.

Divya Seshamani

Investment Committee Member

Ms Seshamani has over 17 years of advisory and private equity experience in a range of sectors including infrastructure, energy, sustainability and manufacturing and she has held a number of senior management and director level roles in private equity, clean technology and energy businesses.

Prior to Greensphere Capital, Ms Seshamani was a Partner at TPG and also worked at the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund) in its global infrastructure group, Unilever Ventures, The Parthenon Group and Goldman Sachs. She has worked on the boards of a number of large and small companies in the US and UK, including currently serving as an independent non-executive director on the board of Forterra PLC and previously as an independent non-executive director at Marine Current Turbines Limited.

Ms Seshamani is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader for her work in sustainable and impact investing, and has served on the investment panel for the Global Innovation Fund anchored by USAID and the UK’s Department for International Development. She was previously a council member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) for two consecutive terms.

Ms Seshamani holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University.

Greensphere was founded in 2011 by a team of sustainable investment experts. Greensphere seeks to demonstrate how investors can lead the transition to more inclusive and sustainable business practices to mitigate against some of the biggest thematic risks resources and the environment facing our generation.

  • Second round investment into Duranta to fund feedstock services and O&M Limited.

  • Merger with TPG.

  • Investment into Whites Recycling at TPG.

  • Investment in WBE Fuels (Greensphere Biomass 1 fuel processing and forestry business).

  • Air Liquide’s gas-to-grid facility is operational at Duranta’s Middlesbrough site, increasing the plant’s capacity from 5.1MWe to 7.4MWe.

  • March – August 2016: Third tranche investment into Duranta to fund expansion and gas-to-grid facility.

  • April – October 2016: Research, market testing, negotiations for Greensphere Capital PLC

  • Selected Ecofin as partner for Listed Equity strategy for Greensphere Capital PLC.

  • Spun out to list Greensphere Capital PLC on LSE Main Exchange.
