Greensphere Capital appoints Dan Cheesman as Principal

September 2023(London) – Greensphere Capital has appointed Dan Cheesman CBE as Principal. Sustainable private equity firm Greensphere Capital launched its Nature Based Solutions at COP26 in 2021 and announced it path-breaking joint-venture partnership with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in July 2022. The appointment of Dan Cheesman brings further market-leading expertise to the senior leadership of the firm to drive this forward further.

Greensphere Capital is excited to welcome Dan Cheesman CBE as Investment Principal. Dan will be a senior leader in our Gaia Sciences Innovation platform where he will help invest, incubate and grow technologies from our Partner institutes into world-leading companies that help combat climate change and biodiversity loss.

As a principled and ethical technologist in areas that are incredibly relevant to Greensphere’s growing technology portfolio, Dan brings a strong track record of scaling and investing in AI, data, remote sensing, and machine learning technologies (and companies) that had to operate and succeed in the most demanding environments. In his last role as the inaugural Royal Navy Chief Technology Officer, he was tasked with rapid acceleration of technology across a 40,000 employee global organisation and where he also created Defence’s first AI Accelerator (the £100M ‘NELSON’) and was Defence’s instigator and champion of its Agility@scale Transformation Programme. Dan was also the founder of NATO’s first air, land, sea and subsea Autonomy Accelerator (NavyX). For impact delivered, he was nationally recognised with an MBE in 2008 and further recognised in 2022 with a CBE.
