June 2023 (London) – Our Managing Partner Divya Seshamani was at Number 10 to discuss mobilising nature finance

Green finance and investments have an important role to play in responding to the challenge of halting and reversing biodiversity loss and delivering net zero, as well as supporting our farmers to produce food sustainably. The UK is a leader: the updated Green Finance Strategy, published in March 2023, sets out the UK Government’s commitment to unblocking new investment opportunities and boosting confidence and participation in markets. Alongside the renewed strategy, DEFRA published the Nature Markets Framework to set out principles and guidance scale up this work.
As custodians of over 70% of UK land, farmers have a vital role and the government today reiterated how committed they are to ensuring farmers and land managers have the right support to access these growing investment opportunities.
The government also reiterated that it wants to help investors seize the opportunity of these new markets. There is a growing demand for green financial services. Global ESG assets under management have increased from $2.2 trillion in 2015 to $18.4 trillion in 20211.

Our Managing Partner shared how Greensphere, through its Gaia Sciences Platform investing in enabling supply chain and NatureTech will allow more capital to flow to these vital green financial markets.

The event brought together landowners and farmers, investors and policy experts, to build on the strong foundations set out by the Nature Markets Framework and to agree what further action is needed to mobilise finance for nature and farming.
